France’s large skiing industry was built up in the 1960s thanks to heavy state funding. It’s now in difficulty as the impact of climate change on snowfall threatens smaller ski resorts on low- or mid- altitudes. Hughes François, a researcher on tourism and climate at France’s INRAE institute in Grenoble, says these smaller resorts are facing a double blow.
