Scandals over abuse of the elderly in French care homes, combined with growing loneliness among pensioners, have encouraged a group of active seniors to move in together. La Ménardière, an 18th-century mansion in Bérat, in south-west France, is run as a shared-living collective. Co-founder Michel Malacarnet describes the approach as ageing together in a house that is “on the offensive”.
