PORT-AU-PRINCE — Haitian American journalist and TV host Melissa Queenie Sapini will represent Haiti in the 2025 Miss Universe competition, marking the country’s return to the global stage after a two-year absence. Sapini was crowned Miss Universe Haiti 2025 during a special ceremony on Oct. 18 at The Palm Theater in Boca Raton, Florida.

Sapini, a former Miss Massachusetts USA, is no stranger to pageantry. She competed in Miss USA 2024 in Los Angeles and placed among the Top 10 finalists.

The 22-year-old will now prepare to compete for the 74th Miss Universe event to be held in Thailand between Nov. 2 and Nov. 21.

A graduate of Suffolk University in Boston with a degree in broadcast journalism, Sapini co-founded The Two Queens Foundation with her mother to fund education in Haiti and support literacy programs inspired by her grandmother, who could not write her own name.

Her appointment as Miss Universe Haiti comes under the new national director, Lulu Orange, a South Florida-based marketing expert and founder of the Miss Haiti Academy, who recently acquired the Miss Universe Haiti franchise — a development she called “a decade-long dream,” according to The Miami Herald.

Born in Boston and raised in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, for Sapini, her journey is about pride and unity across the diaspora.

“For Haiti, and for every Haitian in every corner of the world — this is bigger than one nation,” Sapini wrote on Instagram. “It’s about unity and the Caribbean rising together, celebrating one love.”
