NEW YORK — Even before Nu Look arrived at Madison Square Garden to deliver its konpa symphony show on Valentine’s Day, fans were already hype about the event’s uniqueness. Eager to see maestro Arly Lariviere on stage, hundreds discussed going to the show.

On Facebook, Cassie Joseph commented on Nulook’s post, “We making history tomorrow night pa kite yo vin di ou Nulook.” On Instagram, user @reineofnyc writes, “King Arly, thank you for sharing your incredible gift of music with the Haitian community. Your talent, passion, and electrifying stage presence truly made the night unforgettable. We can’t wait to see you again.”

Once the show kicked off, experiencing the music proved to be an indelible moment for those who made it to the 3,000-capacity Infosys Theater of the world famous venue. Dressed in evening gowns and suits, fans across all age groups — including many in their 70s not usually seen at regular nightclub bals — trotted to Manhattan for the experience.

Even then, some latecomers lined up at the box office to buy tickets, which by then were selling between $300 to $500 per seat.

Inside, the concert goers cheered and whoooee as Larivière belted out a bolero-style musical tribute to his father and welcomed Wyclef Jean as a special guest. They shouted out lyrics with Larivière as well when he crooned his signature love songs, running up to the pit to record on their phones and dance.

Here are a few images from inside the theater.
