Haitian of the Year 2025: Celebrating Haitian Excellence Across the Globe

From groundbreaking innovation in the United States, to cultural dominance in France, to lifetime community service in Canada, and historic sporting triumph in Haiti, these honorees embody resilience, brilliance, and Haitian pride.

United States Haitian of the Year 2025 (USA): Dr. Herriot Tabuteau

In 2025, Dr. Herriot Tabuteau made history by becoming the first Haitian-born individual ever named to Forbes’ World’s Black Billionaires list, debuting at #21 with an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion. Born in Haiti and raised in New York, Dr. Tabuteau’s journey from immigrant roots to global pharmaceutical leader stands as a defining Haitian success story.

As founder and CEO of Axsome Therapeutics, Dr. Tabuteau spearheaded the development of innovative treatments for major depressive disorder, Alzheimer’s-related agitation, and other neurological conditions, addressing urgent and underserved medical needs worldwide. His leadership blends scientific rigor with entrepreneurial vision—proving that Haitian excellence thrives at the highest levels of global innovation.

Beyond wealth, his achievement shattered long-standing barriers in biotech and pharma, inspiring Haitians everywhere. For his transformative contributions to medicine, business, and representation, Dr. Herriot Tabuteau stands as Haitian of the Year 2025 – United States.

France Haitian of the Year 2025 (France): Joé Dwèt Filé

In France, 2025 belonged to Joé Dwèt Filé, the Franco-Haitian R&B artist who propelled Haitian culture into the heart of Europe’s music mainstream. His breakout hit “4 Kampé”—a powerful fusion of modern R&B and traditional Haitian konpa—became diamond-certified, surpassing 50 million streams.

At Les Flammes 2025, France’s premier urban music awards, Joé Dwèt Filé won Best Caribbean or Caribbean-Inspired Song, making Caribbean music history. The victory, celebrated during France’s Haitian Heritage Month, positioned Haitian sound and identity at the center of French popular culture.

His influence extended globally with BET Awards recognition and formal honors from the Embassy of Haiti in France for promoting Haitian music worldwide. Proudly carrying the Haitian flag on international stages, Joé Dwèt Filé emerged in 2025 as both an artist and cultural ambassador—earning him Haitian of the Year 2025 – France.

Canada Haitian of the Year 2025 (Canada): Marjorie Villefranche

In Canada, Marjorie Villefranche represents the very soul of Haitian community leadership. In 2025, she retired after more than 40 years of unwavering service as Executive Director of La Maison d’Haïti in Montreal.

From teenage volunteer to visionary leader, Villefranche transformed La Maison d’Haïti into a cornerstone institution—championing immigrant integration, youth education, women’s empowerment, arts, and anti-racism advocacy. Under her guidance, the organization also played a critical role in humanitarian relief following Haiti’s 2010 earthquake.

Her leadership style—hands-on, compassionate, and fearless—earned admiration across Quebec. As she stepped down in 2025, tributes poured in recognizing her as a bridge-builder and tireless defender of dignity and justice. For a lifetime of service culminating in a historic transition year, Marjorie Villefranche is honored as Haitian of the Year 2025 – Canada.

Haiti Haitian of the Year 2025 (Haiti): Duckens Nazon

In Haiti itself, Duckens Nazon delivered one of the most powerful moments of national unity in decades. As star striker of the Haiti national football team, Nazon led an unforgettable 2025 World Cup qualifying campaign.

On September 9, 2025, he scored a legendary second-half hat-trick against Costa Rica, keeping Haiti’s hopes alive. Finishing as Haiti’s top scorer with six goals, Nazon helped achieve the unthinkable: Haiti qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 52 years, its first appearance since 1974.

Nicknamed “Le Duc,” Nazon captained a team forced to play home matches abroad due to insecurity—yet still triumphed. His leadership, resilience, and historic goals gave Haitians at home and across the diaspora a rare reason to celebrate in a difficult year. For restoring pride, joy, and belief, Duckens Nazon is named Haitian of the Year 2025 – Haiti.

🌍 A Global Haitian Legacy

Together, these four honorees tell a powerful story: Haitian excellence knows no borders. Whether through science, culture, service, or sport, Haitian of the Year 2025 reminds the world that Haiti’s greatest resource is its people.

Haitian Globe proudly salutes:

Dr. Herriot Tabuteau (USA) – Innovation & Global Leadership

Joé Dwèt Filé (France) – Cultural Power & Artistic Influence

Marjorie Villefranche (Canada) – Lifetime Community Service

Duckens Nazon (Haiti) – National Pride & Sporting History

My heart is full of pride for my brothers and sisters across the globe who continue to uplift Haiti—rising above the darkness others have tried to define us by, and restoring the world’s recognition of our intelligence, dignity, and strength.
Thank you, and congratulations. Haiti is proud of you.
