Tiny French outpost off Canada the unlikely stage for new transatlantic courtship

A tiny piece of France just off Canada’s Atlantic coast will become the setting for a much bigger geopolitical story on Sunday, when President Emmanuel Macron welcomes Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. The meeting brings Canada’s push for closer ties with Europe to a territory that has long sat at the crossroads of French, Canadian and US interests in the North Atlantic.
